It's been a while since I've written a post on a new makeup discovery.

Hourglass's Ambient Lighting Powder are my new favourite things. These are a multi use powder which can be used as a highlighter or an all over powder. There are six various shades, which are intended to diffuse and soften the way light reflects on your skin. The powders are finely milled and there are no chunks of glitter or shimmer. These won't leave you with oily or shiny looking skin. Best of all  these powders are free from talc, gluten fragrance and nanoparticles.

I purchased Dim Light and Luminous Light. Whilst these little treasures aren't cheap; they will certain last you the next twenty years (unless you apply your makeup with a shovel). Luminous Light is by far my favourite and was one of the few products which made it across the pond to America with me for my 7 week trip away.

That's saying something.

Luminous Light

These are available at Sephora here or for my UK readers at Space NK here.

Whilst these outfits may not be everyones cup of tea the Olsen twins have never been afraid to push boundaries.

In an era where clip in extensions and spray tans are king it's awfully refreshing to see minimal makeup and vintage couture (hello tangerine Dior). Mary-Kate's Gatsby-esque coat would look equally as perfect thrown over jeans and a pair of fabulous Saint Laurent simple strappy sandals.

Think outside the box.

No amount of drizzle can rain on Carey Mulligan's parade.

Pure perfection.

Statement jewellery doesn't need to be a big chunky nightmare that falls apart faster than your kid brothers forts made out of blankets.

Gaia Repossi keeps it simple and let's her jewellery do all the talking.

I will learn to french braid my hair this summer.

If you know me well you'd know that I would have given anything to have lived in the 20s and 30s. I have collected vintage flapper dresses since I was in Bugsey Malone aged 11. I have even been looking at vintage wedding dresses much to the horror of my friends.

Baz Luhrmann's rendition of The Great Gatsby is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. The cinematography, sets and acting was sublime but it has to be said the Miuccia Prada designed costumes were absolutely incredible.

I'm planning to go back to the cinema this week to have another peak into Daisy's fabulous wardrobe and ponder on how my hair would look cut into a choppy blonde bob.

I kind of need one of these M2M bags ASAP.

It's Sunday morning and after a long week of running around like a headless chicken this picture is exactly what I want from my Sunday; a choppy bob, slouchy sweater and an iced coffee in front of a rail of beautiful clothes.

Heavenly.

How great are my new Saint Laurent black suede ankle boots. I seem to be going on a LBB (little black boot) bender recently. They really are the most versatile and useful little things and these are sensible without looking too sensible (think Hush Puppies, Crocs and anything with a rubber sole). Hopefully these shoes will transform me from scruffy mess to the put together girl at lunch that makes everyone feel terrible about themselves.

Here's hoping.

And here's the same boot in tan for those with extra skinny, extra tanned legs. These also come with an extra high heel but they somehow lose some of their charm.

Find yours now at Selfridges.

There's nothing I love more than pampering myself. However it is possible to go overboard (daily blow dries, fake eyelashes for brunch, weekly shimmery spray tans, clip in extensions to the gym). One thing I always make sure of is to have neat looking nails, even unpolished nails look better with tidy cuticles.

I was reluctant to post on my favourite nail polishes because there's generally only a handful of colours that will be on my hands (nude, light pink, red or deep red) however I wanted to elaborate on my favourite tried and tested colours for spring and summer.

(L-R) Orly's Kiss the Bride is the perfect light pink which is beautifully milky but nude enough not to make a statement.

Essie Sand Tropez, Topless and Barefoot (not pictured) and OPI Samoan Sand are the best nudes for 'mannequin nails' that go with absolutely everything.

Chanel Peridot reminds me of a scarab beetle. It's so hard to explain the colour, in some light (including this picture) it appears gold, it can also appear metallic green and blue.

Finally for red, Jelly Apple by Essie is the truest, brightest, most vibrant red that I've ever come across. I love wearing this on my hands and toes together.

Today I picked up Chanel's latest colour Azure. Like Peridot the colours change in the light creating a magical painters palette on your nails. This will be firmly lacquered on my toes over summer and makes a beautiful pairing with an understated nude nail.

Ashley Olsen has mastered day to day style. She manages to make stylish but quick choices (these girls certainly don't look like they've spent hours getting ready; even if they have). She opts for well made pieces which can be worn with a plethora of layers. Her accessories are the real heroes of the story, mostly in luxurious skins (note crocodile skin coat pockets) with non-bunyon forming shoes - sensible heels are my new thing, I guess it comes with age.

My hair has been through the ringer recently.

Every few years I decide I want dark hair and a fringe which in theory should make me look like a Brazilian supermodel but in actual fact makes me look like Wednesday Adams' slightly porky cousin.

On the long road back to being a blonde, my hair has started screaming out for a little TLC. I started off with a trim with the genius Stephan Low at Neville's (if he can do Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's hair then I'll happily sit in his chair).

I decided that I wouldn't use heat on my hair until it was totally necessary and do twice weekly conditioning treatments (coconut oil is my favourite as is Elasticizer Extreme by Philip Kingsley).

Secondly I have begun taking supplements, I purchased these Phyto vitamins a few weeks ago because they're small enough to avoid blocking up your windpipe (never chic). Along with this, I purchased a leave-in night time serum which is meant to aid hair repair. Other than this I have also just ordered kelp which I will take once a day.

Harpers Bazaar has compilied a fabulous list of hair dos in order to grow that luscious mane you've always dreamt of.

See it here.

What are your hair tips?
